Special Event!

Hi everyone, we’re back from a truly amazing weekend up there at the Grass Valley Celtic Festival! It was quite possibly the best festival ever, with an insane finale by the Old Blind Dogs & Molly’s Revenge playing together which many said sonically altered the space-time continuum. Keep an eye out for the videos on youtube, and if you missed it, you should definitely make a trip out of attending next year– such a great time!   Just one last chance to catch Molly’s Revenge at a festival as the season winds down; we’ll be playing this Sunday, October 9th, at the Goleta Old Time Fiddlers Festival at the Stow House in Goleta, CA. Lots more shows coming out though; check it out! www.mollysrevenge.com

Tomorrow night will be a SPECIAL Celtic Music Night, Tuesday, October 4th, 7pm, to wrap up this series as we enter Fall: Fundraiser for Sudan Orphanage, with Celtic music by the Balke Bairnes, Erich Bloecher, David Brewer, & friends.Bradley and Sean Balke, of the Celtic Music Night guest band, The Balke Bairnes, have a unique opportunity to go to South Sudan to work at an orphanage to build a kitchen / school room, look into the possibility of setting up a Internet Café to generate income for the orphanage, work on various projects, and to be taught by the children. They are trying to raise ~5K and if they do not raise the funds needed to go, they will donate all of the funds raised to the orphanage. There will be CD’s of the Balke Bairns available for a donation.

Background:
Cornerstone Orphanage was started in 2005 when Pastor Juma John resettled with his church into the town of Nimule from a refugee camp in Uganda, homeless children came to him looking for help. Some had lost their parents in the war or by disease, some had been abandoned, some had been the victims of abuse. Cornerstone Children’s Home is the result of that church-based effort to care for the needy children of Nimule. Today more than 60 children are housed, fed and nurtured in a loving Christian environment. A building is nearing completion located on the same compound as the church, which provides a safe and healthy place for the children to live.

And, if you’re thirst isn’t quenched by tonights show alone because you’re hardcore like me, you would definitely enjoy an evening of Irish music in an intimate setting with Three Mile Stone tomorrow night by some good friends of mine whom are lovely players from San Francisco area:
Three Mile Stone is Marla Fibish, Erin Shrader, and Richard Mandel. They serve up traditional Irish music with lift, drive, and sparkle. Their signature sound is all strings: fiddle, mandolin and guitar, with infectious playing, and inventive tune and song arrangements, in which any instrument might take the melody or play back-up. Their repertoire includes familiar tunes and odd ones, a melding of Erin, Marla, and Richard’s repertoire across the decades and the miles. Driving reels, lively jigs, and catchy polkas from Ireland, not to mention a smattering of Quebequois and other styles, come together with a sound all their own.  Lots more info and sample tracks from their CD at www.threemilestonemusic.comHere are the details…Three Mile StoneSoquel (Santa Cruz area) House ConcertWednesday, Sept 28, 7:30 PM (Doors open at 7:00)Reservations and info:  mfibish@gmail.com   Address and directions provided with reservation.

Dueling Uilleanns!

Celtic Music Night at St. Andrew is ON for this Tuesday!!! 7pm!

That’s right my friends, I have finally returned from the extended summer touring with Molly’s Revenge, and I am ready to kick things into gear with more music–are you ready???!! Tomorrow night is going to be a very cool and interesting night of unique, lovely, & fun sounds, because there will be not one, but TWO Irish Uilleann pipes playing together… a fabulous sound to behold!
(…assuming none of the drones go shooting across the room!) jk 😉

My protege of the Uilleann pipes, Eric Bloecher, has been working very hard to master the challenging instrument and I am quite proud to announce that he has reached an excellent level of skill and repertoire, now to be shared with you in concert! Together, we will be playing duets of all types of tunes on the Irish bagpipes, and I’ll also be accompanying Eric’s ‘solo’ pieces with the bodhran and guitar. Eric started music studies on piano at a young age, and now attends Cabrillo College. Eric was featured playing as a member of the Celtic band “Isle of Light during their cameo appearance at the Rio Theater in Santa Cruz as part of the hugely popular ‘Throwing Stones’ concert last May. It is somewhat rare to hear this instrument played, but especially rare to hear two together… hope you can come on out and check it out!
And of course we’ll follow the concert with free refreshments and an open jam session :):):)

So to re-cap, here is the schedule for the rest of the Late-Summer Series:
September 20th: Irish Uilleann pipe duo performance by Eric Bloecher & David Brewer, followed by open jam session.

September 27th: Music Night field trip to concert at Don Quixotes by Scottish band The Old Blind Dogs
October 4th: featured guest TBD– stay tuned; followed by open jam session.

Also, mark your calendars now for November 1st, 7pm, because we will be kicking off our Fall Series of Celtic Music Night with a majorly special featured guest duo: ………………………..all the way fromAUSTRALIA!!!
