Hello my friends! As our Early Summer Series of Celtic Music Night at St. Andrew comes to an end, I wanted to say thanks again to everyone who came out last week to see Mary Mc Laughlin sing with the wonderful accompaniment by Steve Coulter & William Coulter. The music was lovely, the stories captivating, and the info about the regional singing styles was fascinating. Thanks for your support and good vibes, and for purchasing cds and donating to keep things running! Next up, please help spread the word because.. TOMORROW NIGHT: Tuesday June 28th, 7pm: duo “Peat-Fire Flame” with Shauna Picket-Gordon and Colyn Fischer will be featured guests! An evening of Traditional Scottish & ‘Jazz-eltic’ fiddle and piano, with David Brewer on pipes & whistle! Colyn Fischer performs and teaches violin and fiddle, is a qualified teacher of music in middle school, teaches summer fiddle camp, plays jazz, and composes music in many different genres. He teaches workshops in Scottish fiddling to violinists and fiddlers of all ages and levels. He coaches and co-directs the Peninsula Scottish Fiddlers in the San Francisco Bay area, and has toured Scotland with them. He has twice won the U.S. Open Scottish Fiddling championship. Shauna Pickett-Gordon co-directs and writes arrangements for the Peninsula Scottish Fiddlers. She has accompanied many of the great fiddlers in North America, and is the featured pianist in the annual concerts of the Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles. Trained in classical piano and voice, experienced in directing choirs, she creates music in various styles. Her piano is a Kawai parlor grand, and the duo’s recordings were made in her living room overlooking the Pacific Ocean. For sneak preview, check out: scotsduo.com

It’s the long awaited return of Glenfiddich Scottish Fiddle Champion
Rebecca Lomnicky
, accompanied by David Brewer (that’s me!),
After winning the National Junior Scottish fiddle championship in 2005, and releasing her solo album The Call, as well as Turning Pages, and Inspired  with David Brewer, Rebecca was invited in 2009 to be one of only eight top fiddlers world-wide to compete in the Glenfiddich Scottish fiddle Championship at Blair Castle in Scotland, which is regarded as the worlds most prestigious Scottish fiddling competition. She won the top prize, making her one of the youngest fiddlers ever to have won the honor, and the only one ever from outside of Scotland.
She is a fiery and passionate performer, but also her depth of knowledge of the style is incredible—you won’t want to miss her rare appearance at Music Night, especially since she is now relocated to New York for music studies at Cornell University! Catch a sneak preview of Rebecca’s fiddling at her website: www.rebeccalomnicky.com

It’s going to be a remarkable evening of music, but also, you have the opportunity to take a fiddle or music lesson with this world-class fiddler!

Spring Finale!

This is it folks, the last Celtic Music Night for the Spring series….Celtic Music Night at St. Andrew is ON for TONIGHT!
TONIGHT! May 3rd, 2011, 7pm. Come on down for a wee concert of music celebrating the Celtic holiday of Beltaine, among other things, with free refreshments, and open Celtic music Jam session! It’s going to be Scottish small-pipe Night! with your host, David Brewer…

I’ll miss you all in the time between, but mark your calendars now, because the Summer Series of Celtic Music Night has shaped up to be very exciting, with a different amazing featured guest every Tuesday through June, starting June 7th with the long awaited return of Glenfiddich Scottish Fiddle Champion Rebecca Lomnicky, accompanied by David Brewer (that’s me!),with the weeks following lit up by the music of Lady Doris, Mary Mc Laughlin, Bruce Abrams, Steve Coulter, and Peat-Fire Flames Shauna Picket-Gordon and Colyn Fischer! See you there!

And the late breaking news:With a heavy heart and many fond memories, Pete Haworth (aka “the Admiral”) has decided to step down as singer and spokesman for the band Molly’s Revenge. After 10 years of joyous music making, 10 CDs, hundreds of performances, thousands of travel miles, and tens of thousands of hours looking for gigs, Pete Haworth has finally decided it’s time to hang up his bouzouki.
He’s looking forward to his second retirement and finally getting to work on projects which have been on hold for the last 10 years. Of his time with the band, Pete says: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time with Molly’s Revenge and feel hugely fortunate that I was able to be a part of such a great band. I’ll never forget the musical experiences, the amazing musicians I’ve met along the way, and the wonderful fans that have made the last 10 years the experience of a lifetime. I wish the rest of the band the best of luck as they go forward, continuing the legacy of Molly’s Revenge.”
It’s a sad and monumental turn of events for us, but there is a silver lining: Pete will continue to perform with the band throughout the 2011 season — then the torch will be passed and the band will play on. Later this year we’ll be back at some of Pete’s favorite events, including the KVMR Grass Valley Celtic Festival, Live Oak Music Festival in the hills above Santa Barbara, and world-renowned Pleasanton Highland Games over Labor Day weekend among others. We’ve got a stellar performance schedule this year, and we’re playing at top form. We will continue to honor Pete’s vision for the band as we carry Molly’s Revenge music into 2012 and beyond.

Also, some of you in the Celtic scene may have known this delightful woman named Laurie Isdell, who I regret to inform you just passed away after her very long struggle with cancer. She was a light and we will miss her! Celebration of Life for Laurie Isdell THIS Saturday, May 7th, 4:15pm – ?
